Trends in Lighting Design

We’ve all been spending more time at home than ever before, giving us ample time to find areas of our homes we would like to improve. With the weather getting colder, now is a perfect time to add simple touches to make the home feel cozier. It doesn’t take an extensive home remodeling project to make things feel fresh and new. Something as simple as installing new lighting fixtures or redesigning the way the lighting is laid out can make a world of difference in opening up a room and making it feel warmer and more inviting. As the weather continues to get colder and we bundle up at home, a well-lit room is key to creating a cozy environment. The trickiest part can be figuring out where to begin. For those in need of a little inspiration, we’ve got you covered with some lighting design ideas.

At Chloe Winston Lighting, we try not to let trends completely dictate our design philosophy. But we believe there is still value in getting a sense of what styles are popular to help you create a space that suits your needs. While we don’t think design trends are the be all and end all of style, they can be helpful to keep in mind as you search for ways to update your home. Over all we’ve noticed a departure away from standing and table lamps. We’ve narrowed down the 2020 lighting trends we believe are here to stay into three categories: brushed gold detailing, industrial vintage, and glass pendants.

Brushed Gold

Minimalistic designs with touches of gold are among our most popular lighting options. The Hudson Valley Lighting Corinth pendant shown on the left and the Mitzi Ariana pendant shown on the right are both sophisticated takes on this trend. Though both feature an aged brass finish, the color appears as a muted gold. They give the home a sleek and modern feel while working in harmony with the rest of your home’s interior design. Gold evokes warm feelings and pairs easily with various color schemes. The brushed gold in particular adds a subtle touch of luxury.

Industrial Vintage

If you are looking for pieces that are a bit more unique, the industrial vintage look is right up your alley. Both the Generation Lighting Brianna chandelier and Generation Lighting Atlantic pendant shown would make great statement pieces hung in a living room or a dining room, or really any space. These simple yet elegant designs are a modern update on classic industrial style lights. A smaller slimmer version of the Atlantic pendant shown to the right would also look great paired three in a row above a dining table or kitchen island. The exposed Edison style bulbs featured in both are everywhere.

Glass Pendants

Clear glass pendants are another popular style this year. The Mitzi Harlow pendant, top left, and the Mitzi Dani pendant, top right, riff on industrial styles while giving a nod to mid-century modern. They can be used impactfully on their own or paired in multiples. Try hanging two to three pendants at varying heights to create a unique centerpiece. Instead of bedside lamps we’ve also seen pendants like these hung above bedside tables, which makes for a functional and stylish space saving fix.

We hope this compilation of current lighting trends will help spark some ideas on how to improve your home. It doesn’t take a lot of money or time to refresh your home. Good lighting can have a profound impact on a space creating a specific mood. Installing new lighting is a quick and easy redecorating solution without disrupting the comfort and flow of your daily life. If you need additional guidance, we are here for you!
